The J7 Class is a class of Ten Wheelers designed by Howard Knott at the Eastern & Atlantic's Trenton Works.

Design[]

In 1908, Howard Knott decided that, to modernize the fleet of freight locomotives in the E&A roster, a good Ten Wheeler design was needed. Thus, he set to work on the j7 Class.

The class had 68 inch drivers and a good tractive effort for their day. The Trenton Works turned out 110 of the locomotives, but many were beginning to show their age by the 1930's, when trains became dramatically longer and heavier. Thus, they were relegated to branchline traffic.
