The 2Hm2U Class is the E&A designation for the USATC S160 Class, 30 of which were acquired in 1946 and a further 20 of which were built at the road's Trenton works.
History[edit | edit source]
In 1946, 30 extra S160 Class were still in the United States and rather than face the scrapper's torch, the E&A purchased all thirty. 13 of them went to Atlanta for freight work, while another 12 went North on the Washington-Baltimore line. The final five went to work in the New York Area.
In 1951, the E&A saw the need for more freight locomotives around New York to compete with dieselizing roads like the Pennsylvania and New York Central. 20 more copies of the S160 Class were built and given the same designation.
